At Buttercups Preschool we are child-led with both our individual and group planning. We take time to notice a children's interests and alongside parents/whanau, identify children's learning goals. Children's key teachers then document children's assessment via Storypark, on the wall displays and also in children's individual, hard copy profile books.

Our current plan is focusing on sharing and turn-taking. Learning with and alongside others is an ongoing journey for tamariki in early childhood. Our teaching team role model appropriate language and actions, while providing learning experiences that encourage these skills.

Today we noticed a game of bowling taking place, where the children were actively taking turns and sharing the bowling game. With some support from a kaiako/teacher, the group of children took turns to set up the pins and then had a turn at knocking them over with the ball. This went on for quite some time, with some wonderful communication and laughter throughout! This was a great example of the children working together, waiting patiently and trusting that everyone would get a turn, as their individual contribution to play is valid.

One of our core values at Buttercups Preschools is whanaungatanga. As described in Te Whāriki, this is a sense of whānau connection – a relationship through shared experiences and working together that provides people with a sense of belonging. Community Involvement

We recently welcomed Lynette from Christchurch City Libraries who kindly did a group time with us! Charlie came along too, which was exciting! Ngā tamariki really enjoyed the puppets, pukapuka (books) and waiata (songs)! Exploration at Buttercups

There is always important work taking place at Buttercups Preschool! Play based learning is observed within our environment, through exploration, turn-taking, communication and dramatic play, amongst other things! Koru Group - extension learning for four year olds

Our four year old tamariki in the Koru group were introduced to the sounds of different drums today! Koru group is our extension time, designed to meet the needs of our eldest children and introduce self-help skills, new experiences, and a range of learning opportunities, ahead of starting school! Sophie, our head teacher pictured, plays the ukulele and/or mandolin at Buttercups daily, and today she brought in some drums for the children to explore! Our new group planning focus is 'Wairua Auaha | The Creative Spirit' and this linked perfectly. Sunflowers at Buttercups!

We recently planted sunflowers at the front of Buttercups Preschool Huntsbury, Christchurch ! The tamariki have been busy nurturing a variety of seedlings from New World , (thank you to those who gifted us the seeds) and they were ready to plant this week. Along with sunflowers, we also planted other flowers and vegetables in our secret garden!
