Samoa Language Week 2021
Getting creative for Samoa Language Week!
Talofa lava! We recently enjoyed getting creative for Samoa Language Week! This years theme was 'Poupou le lotoifale. Ola manukau le anofale' which means 'Strengthen the posts of your house, for all to thrive.'
The children at Buttercups Huntsbury have been working on a siapo together, better known as a tapa cloth. A siapo is one of the oldest forms of cultural forms in Samoa, consisting of a preparation process of different, intricate methods. At Buttercups, the children are firstly drawing a simple pattern with white crayons on paper and then dipping the paper in tea, to colour it. Take a look at our finished product! By scrunching the paper once dried, it gives the illusion of a tapa cloth. The children then decorated theirs individaully, with each section representing a different part of the children's lives including family members, pets, self-portraits and favourite places in Christchurch! #SamoaLanguageWeek
At Buttercups Preschool Huntsbury we love to learn all about different cultures, religions and special celebrations that are specific to different families around the world!
